Stairway to HDR Flight N0-WH3R3

I took a drive out to Lasham Airfield this morning. It's home to one of the largest gliding clubs in the world. It's only a 5 minute drive from where I live, and apart from catching anything from gliders and single engine planes to Boeing 737's taking off and landing, they have a small airplane graveyard. There are only a handful of planes and a helicopter on display, and they are in pretty bad condition, but I figured all that damage would look good in HDR.

I am beginning to think I should actually start reading up on creating HDR images. I really have very little idea as to what I'm doing, and I'm still only using the trial version of Photomatix, which limits you to tone compression and no detail enhancement whatsoever. At the very worst, I'm learning a lot about tone compression. I'm yet to post before and after image of the work I've done. I sometimes think it would kill the mystery. The image below gives you the impression I shot it at dusk, when in fact I shot it just before noon. Spooky huh?
